Synthetic gemstones are created using advanced technology that replicates the conditions in which natural gems form. These stones are chemically and physically identical to their natural counterparts. Instead of forming underground over millions of years, they’re grown in laboratories in a matter of weeks.

You may come across terms like lab-created, man-made, or lab-grown. They all refer to the same thing.

There’s no denying the practicality of synthetic gemstones. They’re typically more affordable and visually clean, with fewer inclusions or colour variations. But for many, it’s the imperfections and irregularities in natural stones that bring the most meaning.

At Gallagher Jewellers, we work almost exclusively with natural gemstones. Not because they are better in every way, but because they feel more grounded. Each stone holds a sense of place and time. A connection to something older. And when you see one up close, it often shows.
