From Earth to Heirloom

At Gallagher Jewellers, the metals we use are more than just the foundation of each piece. They’re part of its story. Whether you’re drawn to the quiet weight of platinum or the warmth of gold, your choice of metal shapes how your jewellery feels, looks, and lasts.

Platinum

Platinum is a naturally bright white metal known for its strength and weight. It’s one of the most durable choices in fine jewellery and ideal for pieces worn every day.

Unlike white gold, platinum doesn’t need rhodium plating. Its colour is natural and won’t fade over time.

As it wears, platinum develops a soft, matte-like patina that adds character. It can be polished back to a high shine if preferred.

Heavier and more substantial than gold, platinum is perfect for those who want something timeless, durable, and low-maintenance.

Yellow Gold

Timeless and rich in tone, yellow gold has been used in fine jewellery for centuries. At Gallagher, we offer both 18ct and 9ct yellow gold. The main difference lies in purity, colour, and weight.

18ct yellow gold contains 75 percent pure gold, giving it a deeper, more vibrant hue and a slightly heavier feel. It’s ideal for significant pieces like engagement rings, wedding bands, or family heirlooms, offering both beauty and longevity.

9ct yellow gold contains 37.5 percent pure gold and a higher mix of alloy metals, making it harder and more affordable. The tone is slightly paler than 18ct but still warm and flattering. It’s a great choice for everyday jewellery or those working within a budget without compromising on quality.

White Gold

White gold is a modern, elegant option that offers a clean, silvery finish. Like yellow gold, we offer it in both 18ct and 9ct options.

18ct white gold has a softer, more luxurious feel and a slightly warmer base tone beneath its rhodium plating. This plating gives white gold its crisp, bright-white finish but does wear over time and may need refreshing to maintain its shine.

9ct white gold is more affordable and slightly more durable due to its higher alloy content. It has a similar bright look when freshly rhodium-plated, though its base colour is a touch greyer compared to 18ct. Both options are excellent for everyday wear, especially when you want the appearance of platinum without the weight or price.

Rose Gold

Rose gold is known for its soft, romantic blush tone, a result of blending gold with copper alloys. Available in both 18ct and 9ct, the metal’s colour is naturally occurring and won’t fade over time.

18ct rose gold offers a deeper, richer pink tone and a slightly softer feel, perfect for creating pieces with warmth and a touch of individuality. 9ct rose gold has a slightly more subtle hue and added hardness, making it a practical and beautiful choice for everyday wear.
