What is a Lab-Grown Diamond?

What is a Lab-Grown Diamond?

Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds. The only difference is how they’re formed. Instead of
developing underground over millions of years, they are created in a lab using advanced
technology that mimics the natural process.

The result is a diamond that looks and behaves exactly like a mined diamond. Same brilliance,
same structure, same sparkle

How Are They Made?

There are two main ways to create lab-grown diamonds:

  • HPHT (High Pressure, High Temperature): This method uses high pressure and heat to turn carbon into a diamond, just like what happens deep beneath the Earth’s surface.
  • CVD (Chemical Vapour Deposition): This technique starts with a thin diamond seed placed in a chamber filled with carbon-rich gas. The gas bonds to the seed, building the diamond layer by layer.

Both methods produce high-quality diamonds that are certified by trusted grading labs.

Are Lab Diamonds Real

Are Lab Diamonds Real?

Yes, lab-grown diamonds are 100 percent real. They are not imitations like cubic zirconia or
moissanite. Lab diamonds share the same hardness, brilliance, and chemical structure as natural
diamonds. They are graded using the same standards and certifications from labs such as GIA
and IGI.

Why Choose a Lab-Grown Diamond?

Lab diamonds offer strong value without compromising on beauty or quality. They are often more accessible in price compared to mined diamonds, making it easier to choose a stone that feels right for you.

Many customers are drawn to lab-grown diamonds for their modern origin story and traceable sourcing. Others prefer the natural formation and rarity of mined diamonds.

At Gallagher Jewellers, we offer both because we believe in choice without pressure. There’s no better or worse option — just the one that suits you best.
